- Be respectful of Coaches, Teammates, and Competitors.
Varsity Team and Lettering
All athletes race the conference meets. Varsity and Invitational Teams will be selected based on race performance, participation, attitude and commitment.
Athletic Letters will be awarded based on effort, attitude, commitment, participation, and contribution to the team.
Attendance
Athletes are expected to be at practice and competitions. We understand that our athletes are busy with schoolwork, music, drama, clubs, family, etc. Our athletes are very involved and schedule conflicts will occur.
Tell the coach if you are not able to attend a practice or competition.
Do not miss practice or competition because it is convenient, or because of poor planning.
Race Schedule
Conference Races. We are part of the Twin Cities Nordic Ski Conference. Conference races begin at 3:45 pm. Boys race first this year. We try to start on time, but sometimes traffic and conditions will cause a delay.
Invitational Races. We will race at least 4 Invitational Races during our season. The Memorial Sprints are at Trollhaugen, the Mesabi Invitational is Jan 5 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik. We will also race the Holiday Relays at Phalen/Trollhaugen on Dec. 22 and probably another race depending on snow conditions.
Practice Schedule
Our schedule is flexible, because our sport is weather dependent. Practice locations and training plans are subject to change. Practice Schedules will be available weekly online and by e-mail.
A practice schedule will be posted at school.
Practices from school will begin at 2:30 p.m. and end by 4:30 p.m.
Practice with Bus Transportation will leave at 2:30 and return by 5:00.
Race Days the bus will leave at 2:30. Return time will depend on distance and traffic.
Saturday Practices are occasional. Saturday practice is an opportunity to go to different places for longer workouts.
Transportation
Central provides transportation to Conference, Section and State races.
The team has to provide transportation to Invitational Races and Holiday Camp.
We plan to have an average of 2 practice buses per week, beginning the 2nd week of practice. A practice bus without trailer will cost about $120 per trip, for a total season cost of around $2,500.
This year our transportation fee will be $65.00.
Athletes should travel to and from practice and races with the team. You must inform a coach and submit written permission if being picked up at a practice or race by parent.
Fees
Athletic Participation fee: $45.00 Central High School.
Transportation: We ask an additional fee of $65.00 to pay for bus transportation to practice sites.
We will try to transport skis by private vehicle to save the cost of a trailer.
Wax: We request a $10.00 fee for wax supplies. The team will provide all wax supplies, training wax and normal race waxes. For big races when expensive Hi Flouro waxes could be used, athletes can go together to share the cost.
Holiday Camp: Cost will be no more than $125 for the trip. Scholarships are available. Talk to Coach Lageson if you have financial concerns.
Training Camp
Tentative dates for the Training Camp are Friday Dec. 14 through Sun Dec. 16. Skiing at ABR and Wolverine in Ironwood Michigan.
The cost for Holiday Camp will be no more than $100. This includes Lodging and Ski costs for 2 days and 2 nights (4 per room). Simple Breakfast and Lunch and Dinner.
